miles. As far as the eye can see the tropics have nothing
on these beaches. Receding a 1/4 mile, the low tides reveal
hard packed wet sand breeding with tidal pools filled with
miniature marine worlds to explore. Get this! Put on your
favourite swimming shorts, cause you can walk out for over a

- Saratoga Speedway: Race car enthusiasts gather around
for some west coast style racing. A 3/8 mile paved racing oval
dotted with a drag racing strip. Hear the tires squeal and the
crashing of metal as they race for the finish line. For the
kids? Well the really fast go carts is always a hit.
- Golf: The bad thing about having all this sand around
you is that it is too easy to make sand traps. Start of with
the family in a game of mini golf. After, for the adults, there
is a par 3 course for the short game and a driving range for
the slice and hook. There are 7 other big boy courses, including
some internationally recognized courses.
First though, you need
to work on that slice... it's nasty.
- Wildlife Viewing: Relax on the shores, sit back under
an umbrella sprawling out on a beach and watch the sea birds
play in the air above. Maybe a quicker pace is in order. Set
out on a chartered boat and explore the surrounding coastlines,
and visit with the Killer Whales, seals, and otters.
- Kayak and Canoe: Set out on a self guided tour in and
out of the coves and bays along the coastline. Play in the natural
habitat with the wild life and explore the sandy beaches, pebbled
shores, and the feeling of being one with the outdoors. Paddle,
and observe, paddle and observe. Give yourself a lot of time,
there might be a lot of rest breaks.
The scenery is distracting....
in a very good way.
- Walking: Take a leisurely stroll along the easy going
trails of Oyster River Nature Park or one of the trails along
the ocean in Miracle Beach Provincial Park. Both have the same
end result... sandy beaches. Since your there on the beach,
dismount your shoes. A whimsical jaunt in the sand leaving footprints
in your wake for miles and miles just might be what the Doctor
ordered.
- Strathcona Park: 500,000 acres
of lush heavenly rain forests full of wildlife with many hiking
trails from easy to difficult. Topple mountains, divide and
conquer rainforest, follow rivers, sludge through bog or take
a leisurely walk to a lake. Many backpacking and camping opportunities.
Paddlers will enjoy the rivers and lakes when kayaking and canoeing.
- Mitlenatch Island: Have boat will travel. A rental
will do. This special island is a provincial nature reserve
and the largest seabird colony in the area, meaning the Straight
of Georgia. It is a favourite hang out for the sea lions too.
This Island is blessed with less then 30 inches of the wet stuff
a year. Astonishing enough cactus plants live on this dry rock.
Camera people. Bring the camera.
- Road Cycling: Long stretches of backroads leading you
pass farmers fields, eclectic little roadside communities and
sandy beaches. Continue north, on the oceanside route and the
ocean views will play cat and mouse with you disappearing for
stretches at a time until you past Kuhushan Pt. From there on
in the ocean is your friend and sticks around. Swing around
corners and along tight forested roads because the big perk
is the rest stops. You have the ocean beaches to enjoy.
