Waterfront Walkway

The community of Qualicum Beach is located on the eastern shores of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The 4 kilometre community waterfront is a big part of the community. The marine scenery is fantastic, the beach is covered in fine white sand and it is the centre of summer activity.

The waterfront is best viewed from a paved recreational path. The path extends from one end of the waterfront to the other. Lining the path are some accommodations, restaurants and a concession stand. Most of the path is open, away from buildings, providing great views of the ocean.

The pathway extends across the entire waterfront. At one end is a viewing platform for birdwatching. At the other end is a Totem Pole and a "Welcome to Qualicum" sign. Lining the pathway are viewing benches - some metal, some wood. Set back in the trees are picnic tables and grass lawns.

The recreational path is an ideal opportunity to explore the beach community while at the same time enjoy some fantastic marine views and lots of beach activity. The activities enjoyed on the Waterfront Pathway include walking, jogging, roller blading, dog walking, birdwatching and sightseeing.

At low tide the waterfront of Qualicum Beach becomes one big beach. The low tides reveal tidal pools, sea life and lots of wet sand. It is at low tide when the sand castles go up, the swimming trunks come out, picnicking kicks into high gear and beachcombing is popular.

The Oceanside Highway follows the waterfront of Qualicum Beach. Parking is plenty and angular and only in designated spots.

How to get to the Waterfront Walkway

Travel Hwy #1 or the Inland Hwy (Oceanside Route) on Vancouver Island towards the community of Qualicum Beach, BC. Enter Qualicum Beach from the Oceanside Highway so to view the entire waterfront. The highway leads to the Waterfront Pathway.
