Zeballos, BC, Vancouver Island

Zeballos is a remote wilderness village situated on the Esperanza Inlet on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island in British columbia, Canada. The village, previously a gold mining town, is now reliant on the forestry, fishing and marine industries.

The community is isolated on the wilderness coastline accessed by gravel road or boat. The small town, because of its isolation, has built a deep sea dock off the ocean coastline for receiving cargo ships delivering supplies to the village.

The landscape and ocean environment, in and around, Zeballos creates an ideal playground for outdoor activities. Esperanza Inlet, Nuchatlitz Inlet and the Bunsby Islands are some of the ocean destinations visited by outdoor enthusiasts. Some of the activities enjoyed in the region include kayaking, fishing, boating, camping, backpacking and scuba diving.

Activities continue in the remote regions outside of Zeballos. Some decide to travel the gravel roads so to enjoy some caving at the Little Husan Caves. The gravel road continues to entertain as it leads to Fair Harbour and Resolution Park. Both adventure destinations are locations for camping, hiking and kayaking.

Because of the rustic and rugged environment surrounding Zeballos there are plenty of opportunities to view wildlife. Some view wildlife while enjoying a guided tour. Others, our lucky enough, to view wildlife while driving the rough gravel roads leading into the village. Some of the more popular sightings include Bald Eagles, Orca Whales, seals and Back Bears.

The services available in Zeballos important to travelers include accommodations, campgrounds, a general store, gas station, restaurant, marine supplies, medical clinic, library, ATM, pub and liquor store. Many of the services are located centrally in the village and are within walking distance of each other.
