Vancouver Island Stamp Falls Provincial Park
Stamp Falls Provincial
Park sprawls out over 327 hectares of forests, rivers
and waterfalls. A serene and peaceful Provincial Park destination
ideal for exploring natures Salmon life cycles at work.
Stamp Falls Provincial Park is cut with
2 kilometres of hiking trails leading you around the rumbling river, the
fast running currents, fish ladders and the crashing waterfalls.
The area of Stamp Falls is a popular observation
point to observe the annual runs of the Pacific Salmon
as they migrate during the spawning season. The salmon meet at the foot
of Stamp Falls before they embark on the journey up the
fish ladders to their spawning beds to start the Salmon
life cycle all over again. Starting in late August millions of Sockeye
Salmon make their spawning runs up the Stamp River.
A spawning process the Coho and Chinook Salmon enjoy
until early December.
The gathering of large numbers of Salmon
always attracts Black
Bears to the area because it is easy pickings for food before
the Black
Bears hibernation ritual begins. Always be aware of the wildlife
in the area. Dogs must be kept on leash.
There is a parking lot onsite, camping facility, picnic
area, drinking water and pit bathrooms with no showers. There is no sani-station,
electrical hook ups, boat launch or swimming in the area.
