Sidney Spit of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is a marine recreation park covering 223 hectares of foreshore, 177 hectares of upland landscape and an endless sandy beach.

The beach destination, reached by boat and seasonal foot passenger ferry only, is a popular destination for boating, swimming, sun tanning, wilderness camping, ocean kayaking and picnicking. Wilderness campsites are on the island. Rates apply.

Sidney Spit is situated on a point, with a large sheltered bay, on Sidney Island located off the southern coast of Vancouver Island. The front yard of the "Spit" is a very busy waterway. Much of the activity being recreational motor boats and sail boats.

The highlight on the "Spit" is the large sandy beach and the foot paths on the island exploring battered cliffs ravaged by winds, salt water eco marshes and marine wildlife.

The "Spit" is a haven for birdwatching because the area falls under the migratory path of many birds. Each season brings a different mix of birds. Some of the more popular birds are the Bald Eagles patrolling the skies and the Blue Herons populating the shorelines.

How to get to Sidney Spit: Transportation is by boat, kayak or by a foot passenger ferry. The ferry terminal is located at the end of Beacon Avenue in the community of Sidney, BC. There is a small fee for the ferry trip. The schedule changes with the seasons so plan ahead.

Traveling from Victoria to the foot ferry is only a 30 minute drive from downtown Victoria, BC along the Pat Bay Highway towards the community of Sidney.
