Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park
The
Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park trail system is
a great way to spend a few hours of the day exploring the short well groomed
boardwalk paths with some stair climbing and a bridge. Little
Qualicum Falls trail follows the shoreline along Qualicum
River to high cliffs peering down into the gorge like canyons.
The
Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park offers it's visitors
some of the best controlled conditions of unobstructed views of the upper
and lower waterfalls. A great view of carved out rock cliffs funnelling
the current of the Qualicum River pushing the fallen trees further down
the river's path.
The
Little Qualicum Falls can be viewed from the upper falls
bridge and the lower falls bridge and from the few viewing platforms along
the trail. There are 6 km of walking trails throughout the 440 hectare
park. The Little Qualicum Falls trails start from the
campground and the day-use area. The walking paths meander though old-growth
and second-growth forests. For an easy walk, hikers can leave from the
day-use area and follow a loop trail to view the lower and upper waterfalls.
The
mist from the waterfalls and the lush forest environment can make the
pathways very slippery and dangerous. It is advised to not leave the trails
and definitely no cliff jumping allowed. Little Qualicum Falls
has no group campsites, no showers and no fires are allowed.
