Little Qualicum Falls

Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park is a sightseeing destination located near the communities of Qualicum Beach and Parksville, BC on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The park highlights include a boardwalk trail leading into a gorge with viewing platforms overlooking some waterfalls.

The hiking trail follows the edge of the cliffs high above the Qualicum River. The trail leading to the waterfalls is a boardwalk pathway with a series of steps and bridges. The pathway is well protected with guard rails and hand rails. However, being so close to the falls and river the pathway is often slippery from the moisture in the air. It is important to take your time and step wisely. It can get wet.

The viewing platforms in the Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park provide views of the lower and upper falls. The upper bridge, lower bridge and a few lookouts along the boardwalk trail provide the best views of the falls. From the bridge viewpoints one can see the waterfalls and the powerful currents of the river very well. Often in the rivers path are fallen trees and large boulders cligging together like a beaver dam.

There are over 6 kilometres of walking trails throughout the 440 hectare Little Qualicum Falls Park. Most of the trails begin from the campground and day use area in the park. The hiking trails leading to the viewpoints are mostly exploring through old-growth and second-growth forests.

How to get to Little Qualicum Falls

Travel Hwy #1 or the Inland Hwy (Oceanside Route) on Vancouver Island towards the community of Qualicum Beach, BC. Look for the Highway #4 Exit heading west. Travel west for 19 kilometres following the signs to the parking lot of the Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.
