Englishman River Falls Provincial Park
Englishman
River Falls Provincial Park is lush, green and has a very well
maintained gravel trail. There are many scenic natural viewpoints high
above the waterfalls from many different angles.
In Englishman River Park one can hike
down low to the lower waterfalls trekking through lush first and second
growth forests following the river passing by a wide variety of Vancouver
Island trees like the Douglas Fir, Cedar, Hemlock, Arbutus
and, Canada's symbol, the Canadian Maple
tree.
The
trail route that follows the lumbering, rolling Englishman River
enjoys some exploring high above also from the bridge looking
down at the upper waterfalls. The river trail follows along cliff slopes
crossing bridges along deep canyon rock cliffs.
The
canyon walls, carved out by the roaring river connect the two waterfalls
together guiding the crashing currents, all tumbling down. An Englishman
River Falls Provincial Park moment will forever be remembered
as one of the peaceful and comforting parts of your trip when visiting
Vancouver Island, BC.
Englishman
River Falls Provincial Park spans out over 97 hectares which
includes a day-use area with picnic shelter and bathrooms. The forest
floor is littered with fallen timbers, ferns and branches covered with
moss and lichens.
There is also a campground, resting benches along the trail,
a large parking area, picnic tables, flush toilets, fresh running water
and an information area. There is swimming in the lower pools and all
pets must be leashed at all times. and fenced off viewpoints.
The
Englishman River Falls Walkway Trail crosses the river
in two areas leading to excellent viewing of the upper and lower waterfalls.
Depending on the season, the waterfalls create floating mists, with leaves
dripping and condensation building which makes the walking conditions
slippery at times.
So,
please do not veer off the trail at anytime as there are slippery steep
slopes and canyon walls. Plus, we would like to destroy as little of the
plant life as possible. So please in all seasons stay to the trail, no
bushwhacking.
