Parks and Wharves
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, Canada have many protected marine parks and public wharves to visit and explore. Many of the marine parks are developed for open water moorage and are considered all weather anchorages.
The network of marine parks are open year round and can range
in amenities. there are a few marine parks on the west coast that are full service. Most of the marine parks are for protection of wildlife and therefore have no development on shore.
There are some marine parks with sandy beaches and docks for accessing day use facilities.
The day use sites usually have picnic tables, fire pits, running water taps and pit toilets.
Many of the marine parks with no services do not charge for open water moorage. The most popular marinas near marine parks like Montague Harbour, Newcastle Island and Sidney Spit do charge a moorage fee.
Public wharves in British Columbia are mostly reserved
for commercial fishing vessels and Coast Guard ships. It can be difficult in peak seasons
to obtain moorage at some of the public wharves because of the
high number of fishing boats. A public wharf is easily identified
by the red painted rails.
There are many parks and marine parks in and around Vancouver Island. Each community on this website lists all the parks and trails located in that community. Each park includes pictures, descriptive text and directions.
