Kingcome Inlet – A
boating destination filled with exploring Vancouver Island
First Nation and pioneer history. The marine route falls under looming
mountains, exploring rugged and untouched marine landscapes for
17 miles ending at Kingcome River.
Exploring Kingcome Inlet is an opportunity
to discover the history behind the First Nation
people. The boating route passes by isolated villages, some abandoned
others occupied. From your vessel feel free to observe some of the
historic artifacts laid to rest on the ground. Do not touch or disturb
at anytime.
Some saying the highlight of any boating trip to
kingcome Inlet is the Oolichan Harvest from March to April at the
remote First Nation's village of Mamalilaculla. Must ask for permission
to set foot in the village.
Kingcome Inlet Boating
routes all should be based on sound trip itinerary planning because
of the limited anchorage points in the canyons of Kingcome
Inlet. Proper use of tidal and navigation charts is a must
because Kingcome Inlet develops high winds.
Kingcome Inlet highlights include
Spring Passage and Retreat Passage
and the village of Health Bay in Health Lagoon
looking out over Bonwick Island.
Baker and Eden Islands
are further north on the way to Echo Bay, which
has a store and a pub and other amenities.
Most boating trip plans will include passing Broughton
Island when entering Kingcome Inlet. Off
season conditions brings very high winds so boating can be choppy
at some points during an inflow wind surge.
The Kingcome area is laden
with wildlife and it is , pretty much a given, that you will come
across a wide variety of wildlife like
Black Bears, Wolves, and Grizzlies. Some of the other popular
destinations to visit and explore are Moore Bay, Reid Bay and Shawl
Bay.
