The Holland Creek Trail has it
all. The trail system is suited for all ages and abilities and
is accessible from many different parking lots and trailheads.
Each access point leads to a grade of trail each with its own
difficulty level from the easy walk to the vertical climb. Each
parking lot offers the hiker a different view and experience.
The trails are marked as either wheelchair accessible, mild walking,
moderate hiking trail to difficult hiking conditions.
The Holland Creek Trail also links
into the Estuary Walking Trail and the Heart Lake Loop Trail.
From the main Holland Creek trailhead on Dogwood Rd, south of
the village of Ladysmith, the hiking path starts off easy but
then it is filled with ups and downs passing a waterfall, viewpoints
of Ladysmith, the lower and upper Colliery Dam, crossing over
wooden bridges and visiting a reservoir. This hike can be cut
in half when it is accessed from Methuen Rd and even shorter from
the Mackie Rd parking lot near the waterfall.
The Holland Creek Trail connects
to the Heart Lake Trail which is a short , but tough vertical
hike to a viewpoint overlooking Ladysmith and the surrounding
area. Further along the hike it opens up to Heart Lake and some
pristine views and peace and quiet. From Heart Lake the hike is
easier as it follows the path to the second lake on the hike named
Stocking Lake. Again, all these segmented section of the trail
have various access points.
