There are a wide range of adventure trails located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Some are easy, some are extremely difficult. Some trails are for community sightseeing while others are for exploring wilderness forests and mountains.

Backpacking and hiking trails on Vancouver Island explore coastlines, alpine meadows, wetlands, bogs and sandy beaches. There are day hikes and multi day adventure trails on Vancouver Island. Some trails are paved, well maintained while others are gravel, dirt and mud.

Accessing some of the Vancouver Island trails can be difficult. There are trails which are located deep in the backcountry and require traveling a rough gravel road to access the trailhead.

However, many of the more popular trails are easily accessed via highways and paved roads located near communities in parks. There are many Vancouver Island parks and many include a very good trail system.

When hiking and backpacking on Vancouver Island always be prepared for weather - as it changes quickly. Proper equipment is essential when hiking on the island. The terrain can be tough and unforgiving.

Vancouver Island is wildlife country. Always be aware of your surroundings when hiking the back country. There are bears and cougars in our forests.

Many developed trails on the island can be completed in a few hours. Some of which include services like outhouses, flower gardens, amphitheatres, fountains, picnic tables, ponds, playgrounds, playing fields and viewing benches.

All backpackers should prepare properly when exploring the backcountry. Some of the important items to include are very good hiking boots, all weather tent, layered clothing, rain gear, water, whistle, waterproof matches, bear spray, etc.

Multi day backpacking trails have designated wilderness camping locations, food cache storage and pit toilets.
