Cowichan Valley Wine Country

The Cowichan Valley is wine country on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The valley is well known as a producer of quality wines, many of which have earned awards from around the globe.

The Cowichan Valley receives over 2,000 hours of sun a year! It is referred to as the " Warm Lands ". It is a weather system allowing a long fermentation process producing wines higher in acids and more aromatic. The warm climate and the good soil conditions create growing conditions ideal for wines and ciders to prosper.

Currently there are over 20 wineries and vineyards located on the west coast Islands. Of those, about 10 operate in the Cowichan Valley. The Cowichan Valley vineyards produce reds, whites and ice wine. There are also growers in the valley producing ciders and one that works magic with kiwi fruit.

Most of the wineries in the valley are small and family-owned. The larger wineries have restaurants and dining facilities. A few wineries have facilities available for events, meetings and conferences.

Many wineries in the Cowichan Valley provide wine tours and wine tastings. During the spring season, usually around March, the local wineries and vineyards start their wine season by opening their doors to wine tours and wine tasting.

All the local wines can be purchased from a local liquor store. Cowichan Valley wines can also be enjoyed with a meal at many of the fine restaurants in the valley.

A fantastic way to tour the backcountry roads in the Cowichan Valley is to arrange a wine tour or plan a self guided wine tour. A wine tour will take you through seaside villages and country fields leading to places like Cowichan Bay, Duncan, Cobble Hill and Glenora.
