- Mountain
Biking: The Comox Valley region has some of the best mountain biking trails on the island. The community of Cumberland is the best recognized area in the region for biking. It has a large network of mountain and forested trails that are developed and mapped. The Cumberland trails are very well known in mountain biking circles.
- Road Cycling: The Inland Highway (Oceanside Route) and Island Highway are popular cycling routes on the Vancouver Island that pass through the Comox valley.
- Hiking & Backpacking: There are too many hiking trails and backpacking trails in the region to list here ( go to parks and trails for complete list ). There are many short day walks within the valley. And the tougher long-haul backpacking adventures are located in Strathcona Provincial Park located west of the Comox Valley.
- Kayaking & Canoeing:Comox Harbour, Goose Spit and Kin Beach are just a few launch sites for sea kayaking in the valley. Buttle Lake and Comox Lake are popular canoe destinations. Strathcona Park located west
of the city enjoys roaring rivers ideal for river kayaking.
- Golfing:There are about 8 golfing destinations in the Comox Valley and surrounding
area. There are award winning 18 hole golf courses and there are some pitch and putt - par 3 courses and even some mini golf attractions.
- Wildlife Viewing:The Courtenay River Estuary is a natural bird sanctuary with
many species of marine and coastal sea birds.
- Skiing & Snowboarding: Mount Washington
located in Strathcona Park west of Courtenay is the premier
snow skiing resort on Vancouver Island.
- Lake Fishing: Chicadee Lake, Wolf Lake are stocked with Rainbow
and Cutthroat Trout. Regan Lake is home to Kokanee Salmon. There are other fishing lakes in the region also like Willemar, Maple,
Anderson and Blue Grouse Lakes. Fishing guides are for hire in the area. All recreational fisherman must have a fishing licence.
- Beachcombing: So many beaches to explore in the Comox Valley. There are sandy, rocky and pebbled beaches. Some are small while others are huge. Some beaches are very popular drawing crowds while other beaches are remote with no one in sight. Saratoga and Miracle Beach north of Courtenay are huge and amazing.
- Sailing and Boating:Comox Harbour Marina is a major port in the valley. The marina provides all the marine services important to boaters and sailors. It is a good launching point for exploring the oceans and islands in the region.
- Ocean Fishing:Salmon and halibut fishing in the oceans around the Comox Valley attracts fisherman from all over. Some arrive with boat in tow while others sign up with one of the local fish guides.
