- Wine Tours: From the community of Chemainus the rest of the Cowichan Valley is easily accessible. Throughout the valley are many wineries and vineyards. A popular sightseeing driving tour in the valley is the Wine Route.
- Sea Kayaking: Kayaking the coves, bays and nearby islands is a popular activity in the region. There are launch sites for self guided kayaking. For the longer overnight trips and for the less experienced kayakers there are guided kayaking tours offered in the Cowichan Valley.
- Performing Arts: Chemainus Theatre operates in the community. Located in the heart of Chemainus the dinner theatre hosts many high caliber plays weekly. Actors are mostly local with special guest actors appearing regularly.
- Sightseeing: There are many things to see in Chemainus. Some sightseeing is best enjoyed on foot like the outdoor art gallery consisting of over 40 murals. There is a viewpoint looking over the harbour in Waterwheel Park. There are beach views in Kin Beach Park. Some sightseeing is best enjoyed on a bike or driving.
- Shopping: There are many unique stores and shops in the village. There bistros, antique
shops, book stores, gift boutiques and retail stores. All within walking distance.
- Golfing: In Chemainus there is an 18 hole golf course. Challenging putting greens, frustrating sand traps,
and costly water hazards are all included.
- Road Cycling: Biking the backcountry roads, away from the highway, are popular cycling routes. From Duncan to Chemainus to Ladysmith is a popular cycle route along the back roads.
- Day Trips: Chemainus is central in the Cowichan Valley. Day trips include island hopping to Thetis Island or Saltspring Island. Or stay in the valley and visit Duncan, Ladysmith, Lake Cowichan or the villages iin South Cowichan.
- Boating & Sailing. Exploring the nearby island, passages, coves and bays is a popular island activity for boaters and sailors. Marina located in town.
- Beachcombing. The waterfront of Chemainus is a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky shoreline. Kin Beach is ideal for beachcombing.
