Bamfield, BC, CanadaBamfield, BC is a small, unique west coast marine village on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The village follows the coastline of Bamfield Inlet, surrounded by rainforest and wild blue oceans. It is a popular adventure tourism destination and home to the Huu-Ay-Aht First Nation people. The village is a major launching point for marine and backpacking adventures. Services are important. Some of the services in the village important to travelers include accommodations, campgrounds, tours, guides, a general store, a marine shop, a restaurant, liquor store, a pub, ATM, gas pumps (hours vary) and a couple of marinas. The inlet and surrounding sandy beaches attract many outdoor enthusiasts to this small village. There are many outdoor activities enjoyed in the region including hiking, ocean kayaking, boating, fishing, wildlife watching, camping, sightseeing, backpacking, wilderness camping, picnicking, birdwatching and swimming. During the peak fishing and touring seasons the local marinas in East and West Bamfield are very active with yachts, kayaks, boat tours, floatplanes and sailboats. The community of Bamfield is on the doorstep to some of Vancouver Islands most rugged and famous adventures. Some receive plenty of attention like the West Coast Trail and the Broken Islands Group. The West coast Trail is a 74 kilometre backpacking and wilderness camping adventure exploring the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. The Broken Islands Group is a kayaking and boating destination with many islands to explore. The Village of Bamfield is separated by the ocean inlet into two sections. A water taxi is required to travel from East Bamfield to West Bamfield. East Bamfield is on the coast of Vancouver Island. It is populated by commercial stores, some residential homes, a marine research centre and more accommodations. Across the Bamfield Inlet is West Bamfield which is also referred to as Mills Peninsula. West Bamfield is decorated with resorts, cottages and fishing lodges. In West Bamfield there are few vehicles. Walking and biking is the transportation of choice. Along the waterfront of West Bamfield is a wonderful boardwalk trail. The short boardwalk path follows the coastline tightly. It is a an ideal route for marine scenery and views of East Bamfield. On foot one can explore further along the gravel road behind the resorts to a popular beach in the region - Brady's Beach The Village of Bamfield, BC is a located in a remote section of Vancouver Island. There are various modes of transportation used to reach the community. Some visitors arrive traveling the forested backcountry gravel roads, others arrive by boat and stay in the local marinas and then there are some who arrive by floatplane. |
