Boardwalk Seawall The Alert Bay Boardwalk Seawall on Cormorant Island is a waterfront path exploring the coastline on the west side of the island. The seawall provides many opportunities for great ocean views and sightseeing opportunities. The walkway connects the ferry with the village and with some of the more popular attractions and sightseeing destinations enjoyed in Alert Bay. The Alert Bay Boardwalk begins at the U'Mista Cultural Centre on the north end of the pathway. The centre is a very popular destination for learning more about First Nation history and for viewing Totem Poles. From the centre walk south passing by a marine pier, ferry docks, artist galleries, a museum, a pub, some gift stores and restaurants. Along the pathway there are flags waving and some viewing benches. The benches are for resting and observing the comings and goings of the many motor boats, sailboats, yachts and fishing trollers visiting Cormorant Island. Continue further and you come across the Namgis Burial Grounds and an assortment of Totem Poles. When exploring the boardwalk route near the village there are rows of unique homes, some in funky pastel colors - some are the homes to island artists. After the village, at the south end of the trail, the boardwalk path ends and a dirt path begins. it is here that some decide to walk the pebbled beach instead of the path. How to Get to the Boardwalk Seawall Travel Highway 19 to the community of Port McNeill which is located on the north end of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. In the community of Port McNeill, on the waterfront, is a ferry terminal transporting people and vehicles to Alert Bay on Cormorant Island. From the ferry dock on Cormorant Island the Boardwalk Seawall begins. |
