Some of the things to do when visiting Saratoga Beach on Vancouver Island, BC including sightseeing, boating, hiking, kayaking, wildlife watching, sailing, birdwatching, beachcombing and fishing. More information is available under Parks and Trails and/or under Tour and Guide Listings.

  1. Beach Worshipping: Saratoga Beach and Miracle Beach are some of the finest sand and pebble beaches on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Great for beachcombing, picnicking and suntanning. Ocean tides recede a 1/4 mile revealing hard packed wet sand and tidal pools.

  2. Hiking and Walking Trails. Hiking trails in and around Saratoga Beach include the trails exploring the Oyster River, Miracle Beach Provincial Park, and the Oyster River Nature Park.

  3. Golfing. There are many golf courses in the region.

  4. Wildlife Viewing. Birdwatching is enjoyed along the rivers and flood plains in Saratoga. While seabirds are viewed from any of the beaches in the region. Ocean tours operate mostly from the nearby bigger cities including such adventures as whale watching tours.

  5. Ocean Kayaking: Kayakers can launch from the beach or from one of the resorts depending on your planned routes.

  6. Boat Tours. Operating from Campbell River and the Comox Valley are boat charters. Some provide wildlife day tours by the hour to places like Mitlenatch Island. Others provide all inclusive multi-day, overnight voyages including meals and accommodations to Desolation Sound or Gulf Islands.

  7. Road Cycling: The Inland Highway (Oceanside Route) is a beautiful cycling route following the eastern coastline of Vancouver Island. Including a side trip into Saratoga is well worth the views and sandy beaches.

  8. Fishing. Both ocean fishing and river fishing is popular in the region. Ocean fishing is for salmon and halibut mostly. River fishing is for trout. Boat launches, tours and marinas are located along the coastline from Comox Valley to Campbell River.

  9. Sailing. Sailboats are often seen from the beach in Saratoga. There are many nearby islands and passages to explore. So it goes to say there are many places along the coastline for sailing moorage and services.
