Sayward Sayward is located 45 minutes north of Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island, Canada. It is a small community following the shores of the Salmon River (a wildlife reserve). The community continues to follow the river to Kelsey Bay. The community of Sayward provides some services that are important to travelers. Many of the services are located just off of Highway #19A. Services include accommodations, marina, a gas station, ATM and a restaurant. The marina includes a boat ramp, sheltered moorage and gas pumps. The community is a rough and rugged adventure destination with a good mixture of outdoor activities like fishing, hiking and kayaking. Because the community is located in a heavily forested environment with rivers and ocean there is good chance one will also see wildlife like bears, whales, deer and birds when visiting in the region. It is a wildlife landscape attracting outdoor enthusiasts like birdwatchers, photographers and naturalists. Hiking and biking are also enjoyed in the area. Throughout the region there are gravel backcountry roads used by hikers and mountain bikers. Many of the gravel roads are also active logging roads. This is important! All users of the gravel roads should be aware of large logging trucks and heavy equipment. One of the more popular hiking trails in the region is Bill's Trail. The trail climbs to 5,261 feet above sea level to the peak of Mt. H'kusam. It is considered a difficult uphill route that should take about 7-10 hours to complete based on your fitness level and time at the top.
